ARTIST'S STATEMENT:

I have always been awe inspired while standing before some vast panoramic vista with all of its subtleties of light and atmosphere. At the same time I marvel at the complex rhythms and details that nature surrounds us with.

The act of painting is a magical source of inspiration and my artistic influences are many. The Group of Seven painted in the area in which I lived, Algonquin Park, I loved the way Monet would combine flecks of colour that at a distance become a reality, Andrew Wyeth gave me a feeling for spontaneously created details, Jean-Paul Riopelle’s work allowed me a further understanding of abstraction, sumi brush work offered me the freedom to create an image with a single brush stroke and I learned the validity of precise details through Alex Colville’s work.

The paintings may be inspired by a particular place or region but they are not necessarily site specific. They are based on visual and physical experiences mixed with memories, using drawings and photograph to evoke a sense of place.

The paintings take the viewers on a visual journey, where they get to wonder with their own eyes into a complex world of artistic interpretations.
